On February 14, 2020, Reinbert de Leeuw passed away. It has been 5 years in 2025. We commemorate Reinbert with a program identical to the one with which we won The Ovation in 2016 (the award from the theater and concert hall directors). It's also the last program we did with Reinbert, apart from the famous Bach passions.
Via Crucis by Liszt is a truly magnificent work that we recorded with Reinbert in 1987, winning an Edison Award at that time. Liszt's Stations of the Cross culminate in this program with a white hell of snow by the Russian composer Goebaidoelina, with whom Reinbert had a strong personal connection. He performed her work extensively and often met and spoke with her personally. Jetzt Immer Schnee, Goebaidoelina's piece, was written for us. The world premiere, conducted by Reinbert, took place in 1993. It's a spatial piece, with the singers surrounding the audience.
While Reinbert previously played the piano in Via Crucis and conducted Jetzt immer Schnee, Paolo Giacometti will now be playing the piano. ASKO|Schönberg is a partner in this project.
